Winter

The Empanada has rotted at the back of the fridge for a while now. With few ventures off the sofa in winter, getting up only to stop Amber eating something toxic, it has been hard to generate the necessary content for the legions of followers this blog no doubt attracts. Gone are the days of 5 star weekends in Argentina, and fancy photos of beach front walks. But still, the other day we did go to the park. It was a bright, sunny, winter Saturday afternoon, and Amber had a bit of a swing, on a swing, and we stared at the snow covered mountains and wished we were rich enough to ski (not that we'd actually go skiing if we were rich, but we could get a bigger sofa).

Arlette's New Flat

Maria's friend Arlette has just moved into her new apartment in downtown Santiago. She lives on the 16th floor in a building with 25 floors. Can you believe, there are 500 apartments in that building? Amber, who has taken to screaming in the face of anyone who isn't her parents, semed to like Arlette.

Here are a few pics from the flat and from the roof.

The View from Our Balcony

A friend of mine complained that I always take photos of 'small things', so here are two shots of the view from my balcony, taken this afternoon.

Fonda, La Reina Sept 07

It's that time of year again, the fiestas patrias. This is the time of year that the whole country is covered in the national flag, and people eat 4 cows each over a 4 day period. In order to celebrate in an authentic way we went to a couple of fondas, this one in La Reina seemed geared towards horse type people. All the stalls were manned by sour faced men in hats. We watched two men on horses chase a cow in a circle. The odds seemed slightly stacked in favour of the two men and two horses, rather than the cow.

The Diminutive One celebrated the love of all things Chilean by devouring meat. I did begin to worry about the welfare of the animals in the petting zoo.

Dull Balcony Shots

I only venture into the cold to earn my pesos at the Chocolate Teapot Factory this time of year. Photo taking is restricted to shots from the balcony. Here are some dull ones.

I told you they were dull.

Peluqueria Francesa

Went for a meal with these two last week. Somehow, we managed to secure our own private VIP room at the back of a relatively fancy eatery. The place was stuffed full of antiques, all for sale said Thom. Thom also complained that he never featured on the blog, so now, along with his better half Maria, he has reached a world wide audience of say, thirteen?
The Diminutive One looks splendid here, don't you think?
