La Serena

Here's a couple of classic empanada shots. Thankfully, with it being by the sea, the empanadas come in many varieties, not just your usual cheese. These two beauties were seafood. Lovely too.

Maria's cousin has an apartment in Coquimbo, just down the road from La Serena. We had 3 lovely days there following the wedding, before jetting off to Sydney.

The market in the town sold all the usual Chile trinkets and were doing a roaring trade. An absolutely enormous cruise ship was in town and 600 seventy year olds were buying up lord knows what. I guess you can't get fridge magnets in Wyoming.

Also doing a brisk trade was the papaya jam. Why do people buy more jam while on holiday?

The local council decided to spruce up the town centre with these sculptures. I thought they were great.
I also liked the skinhead on this wall. What I liked was the line through the swastika. It is nice to imagine that there is one classic original anti nazi skin knocking about La Serena in his braces. At the end of a hard days spraying he goes home, sticks on a bit of ska and sucks on a palta to unwind.
